AI16: Snowshoe Hike and Ice Fishing With Arctic Lunch
Come take part in classic Norwegian outdoor activities! “Ut på tur” – getting out and about – is a cornerstone of Norwegian culture. You’ll be picked up from Alta by your outdoor enthusiast hosts, and outfitted with either skis or snowshoes. Then it’s off for a hike through the pine forest in the winter air, looking for animal tracks and breathing in the natural energy of the forest around you. You’ll be joined by your hosts and a cheerful Alaskan husky dog who will pull a pulk with food and equipment.
Arriving at the midpoint camp, it’s time to drill a hole in the ice and try your hand at ice fishing. But don’t worry, even if the fish aren’t biting, your hosts will have everything they need to prepare a delightful hot meal over an open fire in a traditional lavvo tent. After lunch, you’ll hike or ski back to the starting point and return to Alta. Now you’re living like the locals!
The tour includes transport to and from Alta, a thermal suit if needed, snowshoes, and a hot arctic lunch. Remember your camera – there will be plenty of photo opportunities!
