AI45: Day Trip by Canoe
Traveling along the Alta River by canoe is the ideal way to connect with nature. The sights both close up and far away provide a spectacular backdrop to a fun ride.
Your nature adventure begins in city center, where your hosts will pick you up and drive you to Bollo, one of the best fishing spots along the Alta River and where your trip will begin. If you’re not experienced with paddling a canoe, don’t worry! All the instruction you’ll need to handle the canoe will be provided to you, and you’ll have good company along the way. Your journey will take you downriver throught the Alta Valley, with a rough and hardy forest along both banks. Keep an eye out – you never know when you might see a white-tailed eagle, ducks, and maybe even a moose!
Along the way, you’ll head to the riverbank and stop for a delicious lunch, prepared over an open fire. Then it’s back to the river for the rest of the journey.
The tour includes pickup and dropoff from Alta city center, proper instruction and equipment, the boat tour and lunch. The water level in the river is typically low at this time of the year, and the ride is a mixture of calm water and occasional rapids. Expert handling skills are not required for this trip. The trip normally takes place on the Alta River; however, if desired the trip can be made on a lake either at Jotka or Kvenvik. The trip will be similar to the river trip, though you may work a little harder to paddle along a lake than down the river with the current helping the boat along.
