AIS12: Dog Sledding Adventure
Take an exclusive tour to Gargia Lodge, a mountain lodge that was part of the old postal network in northern Norway back in the days before modern roads and snowmobiles. It’s the perfect place to start a dogsled tour!
You will be picked up in Alta and brought out to Gargia Lodge. Your job: to help train a group of eager and motivated four-legged athletes… and you’ll do that in one of the most fun ways possible — a dogsled tour! Working alongside musher Sølvi Monsen or one of her handlers, you will meet the dogs, get to know them, and then help set them in sled harnesses for their morning run. With all in order, you’ll be off on a run through the forest and arctic wilderness. When you return to the kennel, you’ll help unhitch the dogs and let them run loose (they won’t be tired!), and then relax around an open bonfire with a hot drink and good conversation about dogsled racing and life in the arctic.
The tour includes transport from and to Alta, warm clothing if needed, the dogsled tour with your own dog team, and hot drinks, homemade cake/waffles and conversation afterwards. The dogs are enthusiastic, frisky working dogs and may jump up on you in greeting – be prepared for muddy paws! Group size is limited to 2 people, and the minimum age is 16 years. Guests must be in fairly good physical condition.
